The USFS South Florida Basic Skills Series was started to help promote figure skating and arena cooperation in South Florida.  The concept is loosely based on the "Future Champion Series" for high level skaters. Skaters are encouraged to compete as much as possible and gain valuable competition experience in a fun atmosphere. Each arena hosting a competition uses the same competition package and the skaters are rewarded with points based on their placements.  If they skate in at least two of the three scheduled "Series" events they receive a final placement trophy.

The USFS South Florida Basic Skills Series was written up in Skating Magazine in May 2004 and the "Series" concept has been copied in the Colorado Springs area and elsewhere (See article below).

The events have been very large and well attended.  Typically they are full day events and often involve using two ice surfaces simultaneously.

We hope to see the "Series" grow!  Please contact USFS South Florida Basic Skills Series Coordinator, Kent Johnson if your arena or figure skating club would like to host a "Series" event.
